Pre-Conference Mid-Atlantic Grain Fair

Join us on March 15th at the Rodale Institute for the Pre-Conference Grain Fair, a hands-on, community-oriented event celebrating grains through demonstrations, education, and connection.

The Grain Fair is designed to be accessible, interactive, and welcoming — offering opportunities to learn directly from farmers, bakers, millers, and other grain practitioners.

Conference sessions & speakers

Our 2026 program spans the full grain value chain — from soil health and seed selection to milling, baking, brewing, distilling, and market development — with sessions designed for both seasoned practitioners and those new to regional grains.

Programming is organized across the following tracks:

  • Regenerative and Organic Grain Farming

  • Grain Processing, Milling, and Quality

  • Baking and Food Craft

  • Malting, Brewing, and Distilling

  • Markets, Business & Regional Food Systems

Sessions highlight practical tools, real-world case studies, and emerging research that support farmer viability, strengthen regional infrastructure, expand food-grade grain markets, and keep value rooted in local communities. Speakers include growers experimenting with regenerative practices, processors anchoring regional supply chains, food and beverage producers building demand for local grains, and researchers and advocates advancing climate-resilient agriculture.

Join us to share knowledge, build market connections, and catalyze collaboration — from seed to soil to mill to bakery to brewery.

We’re building a dynamic, practitioner-driven program. Visit the program page to explore confirmed sessions and speakers — and be sure to check back as the schedule continues to grow!

Conference Sessions and Speaker Bios

children’s program

We’re pleased to offer a Children’s Program during the conference to help make the event more accessible for farming families and small business owners.

Designed for children ages 6–12, the program will run concurrently with conference sessions and include grain-themed crafts, games, stories, and hands-on activities — all in a supervised, kid-friendly environment.

Grain-to-glass tasting

To close out the conference day, we’re excited to introduce a Grain-to-Glass Tasting, featuring beers and spirits made with regionally grown grains.

This casual evening event highlights the connection between grain, fermentation, and flavor — and creates space for networking and celebration after a full day of sessions.

  • Featuring regional brewers and distillers

  • Open to conference attendees

  • Limited public tickets may be available

  • The Grain-to-Glass Tasting is a signature evening event of the Mid-Atlantic Grain Conference, bringing together producers, farmers, researchers, and community members to celebrate the many ways Mid-Atlantic grains show up in the glass.

Hosted at the close of the conference day, this curated tasting highlights a wide range of grain-based beverages, including:

    • Beer (including non-alcoholic beer)

    • Grain-based spirits such as whiskey, gin, and vodka

    • Malt beverages and malta

    • Cereal milk (e.g., oat or barley milk)

    • Grain teas, cereal coffee, and coffee alternatives

    • Kvass and other grain-based fermented beverages

Participating producers will be on hand to pour samples and share the stories behind their products—connecting the glass back to the grains, farms, mills, and regional supply chains that make them possible.

    What to Expect

    • Tasting stations hosted by regional producers

    • Educational, sampling-only pours (no alcohol sales)

    • Hors d’oeuvres and a relaxed, social atmosphere

    • Opportunities to connect grain from field to glass
